Signs that Death Is Near: What to Look for When Your Senior Loved One Is Dying

Signs that Death Is Near: What to Look for When Your Senior Loved One Is Dying

It is a tough pill to swallow, but knowing the signs that will lead to your senior loved one death is necessary. Not only will this get you and your family ready mentally and emotionally—as much as you can, given the situation—but it will also allow you to prepare your senior and address his/her final needs in the best possible way.

With this in mind, we at Advocare Hospice, as your trusted provider of hospice care in Garden Grove, California, have listed down some of the most common signs that your senior may be dying and the timeframe when these may happen.

  • 1-2 Weeks Before Death
Your senior loved one may feel drained most of the time. They may experience hallucinations and visions. They may also be physical changes such as changes in blood pressure, breathing, and skin temperature. They may have very little appetite and thirst and will have fewer bowel movements.
  • Within Days and Hours Before Death
Your senior loved one may not want to eat or drink. They may stop peeing and having bowel movements. Their skin may turn bluish-purple and their pulse and heartbeat irregular. They may also drift in and out of consciousness and have hallucinations that may lead them to cry out and climb out of bed.
  • At the End
Your senior loved one may continue to be restless, confused, and hallucinate. Ironically, they may be clear-headed in their very final hours.

Allow you and your family the support of end of life care in these difficult times.

We offer palliative care in California so your senior loved one can lead a high-quality life for as long as possible.
